In March 2012, four major organizations – preventative, professional and governmental – jointly issued new guidelines for cervical cancer screening.
The authors of the new guidelines reviewed thousands of trials and different types of studies performed all over the world1. The guidelines come from the United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) and a collaboration between the American Cancer Society (ACS), American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). Major changes are listed in Table 1 and are summarized below:
