CASE N°38 – Bronchial Brushing e BAL

Clinical History:

Age: 83

Sex: male

tac chest: smoker, multiple pulmonary nodules and enlarged lymph nodes clavicle

Cytology: Bronchial Brushing & BAL

Cytological Report:

Presence of poorly differentiated small sized malignant tumor cells, with scant/absent
cytoplasm and nuclear moulding.
Positive for malignancy. Cytological findings attributable to small cell carcinoma.

Histological Report:

Bronchial infiltration of poorly differentiated carcinoma with features related to
neuroendocrine carcinoma with small cell aspects.
Immunophenotyping: TTF1 +, CD56 +, Synaptophysin + (weak), p63.
Proliferation index (MIB1) was approximately 60%.
Sampling artifact.
